In collaboration with the Consulate General of Japan in New York, on March 29, 2021 the Salon de Virtuosi presented a special virtual concert of chamber music, Spring Song From Japan, featuring inspiring performances by The Horszowski Trio, who performed from the Residence of Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi in New York, and Quartet Amabile, who joined us from Oji Hall in Tokyo.

The Horszowski Trio has been described by the New York Times as "one of the most compelling American groups to come on the scene,"  and is comprised of two renowned Japanese artists - cellist and Salon alumnus Ole Akahoshi (a 1996 Career Grant winner) and pianist Rieko Aizawa, and the American violinist Jesse Mills. Read more about the Trio HERE. Quartet Amabile is a vibrant young quartet from Japan, winners of the 2019 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and numerous other international competitions. This concert was dedicated to celebrating the coming of spring and paying tribute to the strength of the human spirit as we marked the 10th Anniversary of the Tohoku Earthquake in Japan and one year since the Covid-19 pandemic struck New York. We pray that with the flowering of the cherry-blossoms we will turn the page on the year behind us and look forward to a new and hopeful future when we can gather together again in person. The cherry blossom is also a powerful symbol of U.S. - Japan friendship. You can read more about the gift of cherry blossoms from Japan to the United States HERE.

Our annual concert at the Residence of the Consul General of Japan is a longstanding and beloved tradition of the Salon, spanning thirty years, which is dedicated to showcasing gifted Japanese musicians and the musical culture of Japan and promoting cross-cultural dialogue through music.

We are immensely grateful to these artists for sharing with us their music and inspiration, especially during these still-challenging times, and to His Excellency Ambassador Kanji Yamanouchi, Consul General of Japan in New York, for his generous support of this event. We look forward to continuing our tradition of collaboration with the Japanese Consulate for many years to come.
