MUSICAL SOUL OF HUNGARY
In collaboration with the Consulate General of Hungary in New York, on May 3, 2021 the Salon de Virtuosi was delighted to present a special virtual concert, The Musical Soul of Hungary, featuring inspiring performances by American pianist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner and Salon de Virtuosi 2014 Career Grant Winner Béla Horvath, violin, who performed from Bartók Hall at the Hungarian Consulate in New York, and the Korossy Quartet, who joined us from Budapest.
24-year old Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner has been described as “poetic, electrifying” (Michigan Live) with “mesmerizing artistry and extraordinary ability to communicate” (The Post-Standard) and “a gifted virtuoso” (San Francisco Chronicle), hailed for his “masterful technique and a veritable deluge of sonorities” (La Presse Montreal) for performances that have stirred the intellect and humanity of his audiences on five continents. Read more about him . Violinist Bela Horvath, a student of Pinchas Zucherman, has performed on the world's most renowned stages, including as a soloist at the Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. He is now on the faculty of Manhattan School of Music in New York. He will be joined by pianist Xinyu Wang. Read more about Béla's accomplishments .
The Korossy Quartet is a vibrant young quartet from Hungary formed by gifted students from the renowned Liszt Academy. Winners of the Leo Weiner National Chamber Music Competition in Hungary, the Quartet were invited to the prestigious Quartettissimo Festival. Read more about the Quartet .
Our annual concert at the Consulate General of Hungary is a longstanding and beloved tradition of the Salon, spanning many years, which is dedicated to showcasing gifted Hungarian and American musicians and the musical culture of Hungary and promoting cross-cultural dialogue through music. We are delighted that we are able to continue our long tradition by presenting this concert to you virtually.
